Learned about this event at a cooking demonstration I attended last night….here’s something that will make you feel really good about staying out on a “school night.” Plus, it could be a great opportunity to meet some new PIF (pay it forward) kind of people:

FUNDRAISER SET FOR BARTENDER MILES THOMAS

Restaurant To Help Cover Expenses for Victim’s Hospital and Rehabilitation

SEATTLE (June 21, 2007) Serafina Osteria & Enoteca will host a fundraising event to cover expenses for Miles Thomas, the 23-year-old bartender who was shot by an armed robber early Wednesday morning, June 6th. Thomas was released from Harborview Hospital June 8th and is recovering at home.

The outpouring of support for Miles from the Seattle community has been remarkable. Within the hospitality industry, countless individuals and businesses have extended themselves to support Serafina’s fundraising efforts on Miles’ behalf.

Serafina will open its doors for all-day dining and fundraising Thursday June 28th. Hours of operation:

Lunch: 11 am – 2:30 pm

Happy Hour: 2:30 – 6 pm

Dinner: 5 – 10:30 pm

Late Night Dining: 10:30 pm – 12:30 am

In addition, the restaurant will host a silent auction at the 2043 Eastlake Avenue East location. Silent auction items will be presented for viewing on the Serafina website at www.serafinaseattle.com, beginning Saturday, June 23rd. Proceeds from the silent auction will go toward sustaining Miles throughout his recovery process.

Donated silent auction items include:

  • Dinner for Eight featuring a menu with wine pairings created and prepared by Executive Chef John Neumark on the terrace of Serafina’s kitchen garden located at the home of owner Susan Kaufman.
  • Scenic Flight for Two, donated by Seattle Seaplanes.
  • Cruise for 10 from Lake Union to the Ballard Locks aboard the “Fandango,” (a 33-foot, 1947 Chris Craft); including Miles Thomas as a guest and light dinner with beer and wine. Wednesday July 18th: 6:30 – 10:00pm
  • Caviar and Champagne tasting for six
  • “Date” with Miles Thomas after his complete recovery!
  • Five VIP passes to Seattle Art Museum

Silent auction items have been generously donated by our customers, business partners, members of the local hospitality and entertainment community, as well as staff members past and present. Silent auction bidding will occur from 5pm to 10pm Thursday, June 28th at the offices of our neighbors Hoshide and Williams Architects, and Michael Courtney Design, (directly across from Serafina’s courtyard patio). Most food products and beverages served over the course of the fundraiser have been generously donated by our purveyors.

Wine Director John Neumark has procured a stunning array of donated wines that will be featured in a special wine list in Miles’ honor. In addition, other neighborhood restaurants and bars have agreed to donate tips and the purchase of a signature drink from proceeds that same evening to the fund. Local businesses and patrons are being asked to donate items for the auction. Participating restaurants and bars, along with items for the auction will be posted on the restaurant’s website at www.serafinaseattle.com.
