Sharing Your Story on LinkedIn

It breaks my heart when I hear my talented and successful LinkedIn clients downplay their significant accomplishments once we get to work on the Summary section on their profile to review what they’re most proud of in their career and what they want to do next.

How well do you "show up" online?

In fact, LinkedIn recently shared the results of their latest @Work study which underscores just how big of a problem this is for many of today’s professionals.

Here are some of the findings:

  • 40{60023c7b1960a5fb9dae172379ca3153ba00fa4679a2b03978f428523be766b5} admit it’s difficult to describe what it is they do for a living
  • 53{60023c7b1960a5fb9dae172379ca3153ba00fa4679a2b03978f428523be766b5} of workers admitted they feel like they are bragging

If you met your dream client or employer tomorrow, how ready would you be to wow them and land the job or contract? If you’re worried you wouldn’t be prepared to sell yourself, you’re not alone.

Being able to sell ourselves without coming across as overly self-promotional is important to succeed in any career or business and, from a digital footprint perspective, I always hope my clients will be ready to embrace and showcase their mad skills on their profiles and not hold back when describing some of the huge successes they’ve had or hurdles they’ve overcome.

Plus, did you know our brains are wired to remember stories?!

So how can you overcome this barrier and learn to proudly tell our professional career story?

Just register to get my newsletter and you’ll be able to download my 15-step DIY LinkedIn Profile Makeover tool today. I created this for people just like you. Follow the steps and you’ll be well on your way!

Here’s a sneak peek:

Consider your summary to be a synopsis where your objective is to draw visitors in so they’ll read the rest of your “story.” It should be at least 40 words (200 characters minimum — many people miss this) and adding one will improve your likelihood of showing up in search. And be sure to add a little personality while writing it using a first person narrative (“I learned the difference between….”).

I’ve also created a few different LinkedIn coaching sessions to help you communicate the best of your best and they’re available immediately so get ready to showcase and share your career story with some expert help from me as your LinkedIn sherpa!
