Website Links on Your LinkedIn Profile: Are yours working?

Posted by on Oct 6, 2012 | 2 comments

About a month ago I had 2 different people tell me that they couldn’t find the links to my Websites on my LinkedIn profile and when I logged into my husband’s account and pulled up my profile I saw that it was true. The 3 links I had included and custom labelled had just disappeared! (As had my husband’s, which I saw when I logged in and viewed his profile.)  See image from my “broken” profile below:

Then, after contacting LinkedIn’s customer support (via messages), the links magically reappeared (same thing happened for my husband). This was good news, but since I deliver LinkedIn trainings and workshops, and often blog about LinkedIn, I wanted to know what exactly the bug was and how to avoid it.

Unfortunately, after sending multiple messages, I could not get the customer service rep located outside of the US to explain how the bug/error had been corrected, so just be sure to double-check that your links are there and working (ask a friend to view your profile), and if they are not, contact LinkedIn’s customer support to get help. Also, for survey purposes, please comment below if you’re having this problem or if you did and it’s been fixed.

Here’s how your links should appear:

  1. Thank you! I found your article when I searched Google about the problem of missing LinkedIn links after discovering none when I checked my profile today. I’m left wondering just how long they have been gone and it’s a terrible glitch! LinkedIn seems to have “issues” frequently. Two months ago I reported that in spite of unsubscribing to group discussions several times, I still kept getting email notifications. Customer service said it was a “known problem” affecting some users and apologized but offered no solution.

    • Thanks for the comment, Vivian. I feel your pain. Just this past week, I went to show someone my website links and they were gone — again! With the new profile, removing Answers, and so many other changes, it does appear that LinkedIn has a very long Bug List to deal with this year. Plus, being a public company, and having to live up to their IPO promises, I expect we’re going to start seeing many more features become part of the “paid” versions of the site. For example, groups are probably no longer going to be free to group owners, you mark my words.
