It seems like everybody and their brother is trying to position themselves as LinkedIn experts these days. Well, why not you?
If you’re a career coach, sales trainer, business consultant or professional speaker offering programs on LinkedIn, you should probably know about these 4 obscure tips and tricks. I think they will help prove that your really know your stuff when it comes to leveraging LinkedIn, and if you’re not sure what to do with each of them, feel free to contact me because I can show you how to make the most of them or just sign up for one of my upcoming webinars.
1) You can create a direct link to your Invitation to Connect page on LinkedIn. Here’s what mine looks like:
Find your id= number by looking at your profile URL:
http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=397562&trk=tab_pro
I used bit.ly to create something I could include in my email signatures, InMails, other profiles, on Facebook:

2) You can see what companies, titles or other searches are trending on LinkedIn via an app from LinkedIn Labs called Swarm:
3) In order for your profile to be search engine-friendly, your Last name needs to be visible and you have created a Public Profile. Here’s mine as an example: http://www.linkedin.com/in/sandyjk
To get your profile indexed by search engines:
- Choose “Make my public profile visible to everyone” in your public profile settings.
- Invite and connect with at least 1 connection.
- Supplement your profile with additional sections (like Skills) and other optional information.
- Update your profile regularly to keep it current.
4) Use Signal to find out what the activity is around a phrase or company or a person. You can even share what you find. Start by using the search box in the upper left to search on your string (I used LinkedIn tips for this one):
